2016 Key Initiatives

Safe, Clean and Beautiful 2.0

Downtown Cincinnati Incorporated (DCI) will sharpen its focus on its key role providing enhanced cleaning and safety services within the boundaries of the Downtown Cincinnati Improvement District.  Positive results from the Annual Perceptions Survey, 70% or higher positive ratings for Overall Clean and Overall Safe, will be the standard.  DCI will use cutting-edge technology (hand-held devices provided by Block by Block for Downtown Ambassadors), data collection and advocacy to more quickly identify and address stakeholder issues including the conditions of streets, sidewalks, streetcar stations, alleys, signage and lighting.  In addition to being known as clean and safe, downtown will also be noted for its beauty including more flower pots, trees, street pole banners, sidewalk furniture and public art at the streetcar stations and parklets.  The current DCI Safe/Clean Committee will evolve to a Downtown Experience Committee to better address these broader concerns.

  • Partners:  City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Downtown Cincinnati Improvement District (DCID), Block by Block, ArtWorks, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, Metro, and Cincinnati Architecture and Design Firms
  • Team Leaders:  Chair Elizabeth Sherwood, Vice Chair Rob Heidenreich
  • DCI Staff: David Ginsburg, Shelly Fuller

Urban Experience

Retail Enhancements

Downtown Cincinnati Incorporated (DCI) will improve its current online database of Available Retail Space with enhanced CAGIS mapping, images and content for both the Central Business District and Over-the-Rhine. DCI will strengthen its outreach to entrepreneurs (such as those participating in ArtWorks’ Big Pitch and Co.Starters programs, as well as Bad Girl Ventures) seeking space for new retail outlets, especially shopping, by connecting them to property owners and brokers with special emphasis on vacancies along the streetcar line.  DCI will continue to work to insure the success of the existing restaurants, shops and attractions with proactive marketing, communications and stakeholder services programs.  DCI will coordinate a seminar on the future of downtown retail with key property owners and retail representatives who will lead the presentations. Other seminar topics for existing merchants include How to Use Social Media and Window Dressing Tips.
