National Underground Railroad Freedom Center

Opened in 2004 and located on the riverfront, it tells the stories and circumstances of 19th-century slavery and the people who sought to escape it via the Underground Railroad, a network of sympathizers who helped slaves escape to freedom. The Center also explores the importance of freedom in today's world.
