The American Eagle

By Marshall Fredericks, 1988 John Weld Peck Federal Building 550 Main St. This 21-foot tall eagle, symbol of America's strength, is affixed to Federal Building facade two stories above the sidewalk. Cast in aluminum and reminiscent of 1930's Art Deco, it was designed by Michigan artist Marshall Fredericks, whose commissions can be found from Copenhagen to Cleveland. After graduating from Cleveland School of Art, Fredericks taught sculpture during the 1930's and early 1940's at Cranbrook Academy of Art outside Detroit.
