BLINK

BLINK_Background

Five art installations and light projection mappings have been announced for BLINK, October 12-15. BLINK is a four-day light and art event spanning 20 city blocks, from Cincinnati’s Banks to Findlay Market. BLINK will feature more than 50 projection mappings (think Lumenocity), murals, interactive art sculptures and other light-based displays. Through an immersive and magical experience, BLINK will define the city as an innovative and creative future city.

BLINK is expected to be one of the largest light, art and projection mapping events in the nation. The four-day event will feature large-scale projection mapping installations, murals, urban artscapes, media light and interactive art in Cincinnati. BLINK is free and open to the public - no tickets are required.

The first five BLINK artist installations/light projection mappings announced are:

1. KING CITY behind St. Xavier Church, 607 Sycamore Street

2.
OUR OWN HOMECOMING, 119 East Court Street by We Have Become Vikings
Through projection mapping, We Have Become Vikings will pay tribute to Cincinnati’s history of sound and art. Cincinnati’s King Records, an independent Cincinnati record company and label founded in 1943, and Charley Harper, a Cincinnati-based American Modernist artist will be showcased at BLINK. Cincinnati’s We Have Become Vikings also created a Charley Harper projection mapping for 2014’s Lumenocity. Mr. Harper was best known for his highly stylized wildlife prints, posters and book illustrations.

3.  DEKOSOFA stationed at various lots throughout BLINK by Formstone Castle
DekoSofa is a pedal-powered, three-person mobile couch. It arrives fully furnished with coffee table, chandeliers, and LED lights. DekoSofa invites participants onboard to roam BLINK to a soundscape soundtrack. Formstone Castle is a collective of artists, bikers and self-proclaimed couch surfers based in Baltimore.

4.  LIGHT SHIP at Parkway Towers, 1674 Central Parkway by Forealism Tribe
Projection mapped video and the Forealism Tribe DJs will bring the Light Ship – and the dance party - to life! Constructed from recycled plexiglass mirrored cuboids, the Light Ship will bring light, audience engagement and an otherworldly groove to BLINK. The Forealism Tribe hails from Another Dimension but is currently constructing artworks in Hebron, Kentucky.

5.  IMPULSE on the Freedom Center lawn (near Sing the Queen City sculpture) by Lateral Office
An audience favorite at international light festivals, Impulse is an installation of interactive, acoustic, illuminated seesaws that respond and transform when in motion. Impulse, sponsored by the Dianne and J. David Rosenberg Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, is coming to BLINK from Toronto-based creative platform, Lateral Office.
