Downtown Cincinnati Holiday Guide: What's going on in November

It’s officially the start of the holiday season in Downtown Cincinnati. From ice skating in Fountain Square to seeing a show at one of the city’s multiple world-class theatres, there’s plenty to put on your holiday bucket list this month.

EVENTS

 

ICE SKATING – STARTING NOVEMBER 2 

The UC Health Ice Rink, presented by Fifth Third Bank, celebrated its Opening Weekend on November 2 and 3 at Fountain Square. The rink is now open through Feb. 2. Amenities include lockers, benches, a warming tent, and a full-service concessions tent with hot and cold snacks, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The rink is open to skaters of all ages, 7 days a week.


ZINZINNATI HOLIDAY TRADITION AT KROHN CONSERVATORY – NOVEMBER 9

Discover the beauty of our city’s German history through A Zinzinnati Holiday, the Krohn Conservatory’s immersive holiday display. Surround yourself with evergreens and poinsettias as you stroll through the historical representations of Cincinnati’s buildings. The fun starts on November 9.

TAFT’S HOUSE PARTY – NOVEMBER 14

Start the weekend early at Taft Museum of Art House Party on November 14 at 5 p.m. Chill and have a cocktail and light bites. Discover our secret garden in the heart of downtown while listening to local musicians. Tickets are free, but you need to register online.

THANKSGIVING DAY 10K – NOVEMBER 28

Start your Thanksgiving morning off with a jaunt through Downtown Cincinnati for the 110th W&S Thanksgiving Day 10k Run and Walk. The race starts at Paul Brown Stadium, and kids are encouraged at the family-friendly event. Register for the race online.

DOWNTOWN DAZZLE – NOVEMBER 30

Macy’s Downtown Dazzle is one of the biggest highlights of the holiday season. See Santa repel off a Cincinnati skyrise and wait with anticipation for the sky to fill with light thanks to a fabulous Rozzi fireworks display. The fun starts every Saturday at 5:30 p.m., beginning on November 30.

WATCH IT, WEAR IT – STARTING NOVEMBER 2

Mix up your Saturday afternoons and head to Fountain Square for Watch It, Wear It! Enjoy some of your favorite movies on the LED board as you skate with special guests in costume on the UC Health Ice Rink, presented by Fifth Third Bank. This week’s feature is Toy Story on November 9 at 1 p.m. 

FRIDAY NIGHT JAMS – STARTING NOVEMBER 8

Skate to the beat during Friday Night Jams November 8 - 22. Rotating DJs will take over the UC Health Ice Rink, presented by Fifth Third Bank, from 8 p.m.to 10 p.m. to get your weekend started. Visit https://myfountainsquare.com/ for full rink information including daily operating hours. 

MEAN GIRLS – NOVEMBER 5-17

Mean Girls on Broadway comes to the Aronoff Center for the Arts from November 5-17. Produced by Lorne Michaels, Stuart Thompson, Sonia Friedman, and Paramount Pictures, Mean Girls gets to the hilarious heart of what it means to be a true friend, a worthy nemesis, and above all, a human being. 

ANTIQUE CHRISTMAS – STARTING NOVEMBER 8

Enjoy a glimpse of Christmas past at the Taft Museum of Art’s Antique Christmas, an annual exhibition of holiday treasures. Visitors will find beautiful decorations throughout the historic house, thanks to generous collectors from Cincinnati and beyond. The exhibit opens on November 8 and goes through January 5, 2020.

A MAGICAL CIRQUE CHRISTMAS – NOVEMBER 19

Experience the magic of Christmas with dazzling performers and breathtaking cirque artists from all corners of the world, accompanied by your favorite holiday music performed live. A Magical Cirque Christmas comes to the Aronoff Center for the Arts on November 17 at 7:30 p.m.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL – STARTING NOVEMBER 27

The Playhouse's version of A Christmas Carol combines faithful storytelling with spellbinding stage magic to bring to life its familiar story of a sinner given one last chance at redemption by four persuasive ghosts. The classic show starts on November 27 and goes through December 29. Tickets are available online.

TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA – NOVEMBER 29

Trans-Siberian Orchestra returns to the Heritage Bank Center on November 29 with all-new staging and effects for an unforgettable show. The critically acclaimed, progressive rock group will perform two shows at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are available online.

AMY GRANT & MICHAEL SMITH CHRISTMAS – NOVEMBER 30

Multi-platinum, GRAMMY winners Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith are reuniting to co-bill their popular Christmas tour this upcoming holiday season. The duo hits the stage at the Heritage Bank Center on November 30 at 7 p.m.

HOLIDAY MARKET – NOVEMBER 8-10

Get thousands of unique gift ideas at the Greater Cincinnati Holiday Market at Duke Energy Center on from November 8 to November 10. The market will feature more than 350 boutiques plus a wine lounge for relaxing and toasting the holiday with friends. Tickets are available online.

HOLIDAY EXPRESSIONS – NOVEMBER 15-17

The Cincinnati Art Museum hosts its annual Holiday Expressions seasonal gift market from November 15 to 17. Shop items from local artists and artisans inspired by our permanent collection and special exhibitions this holiday season.

WINTER MARKET – NOVEMBER 29-30

The Winter Market at Fountain Square will feature regional artisans and crafters in newly designed huts. You’re sure to find something special for everyone on your list. The market will offer full concessions including beer and wine, along with delicious food from local businesses. The market is going to be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through December starting on November 29.

BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING – NOVEMBER 29

FINAL FRIDAY – NOVEMBER 29

Every month, artists and art galleries in the historic Over-the-Rhine district of Cincinnati open their doors for a special showing on the last Friday, known to most simply as "Final Friday." Artwork, available for purchase, is included from established artists as well as younger artists from both Cincinnati and out-of-town.

OtrAGLOW – NOVEMBER 29

otrAGLOW is a storefront and window display competition set on the streets of Over-The-Rhine during the winter holiday season. Enjoy the beautiful displays and get your holiday shopping started at local businesses!

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 30

Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide! Come to Over-the-Rhine, a small mecca for locally owned, independent businesses. The energy of the neighborhood continues to attract retail pioneers, artisans and culinary visionaries. We encourage you to explore OTR's mix of old and new, where there's always something new to discover!

JOBS VAN VOLUNTEER – ALL MONTH

Want to volunteer and make a difference in the community? Work on the GeneroCity 513 Jobs Van as a volunteer during your free time in November. The Jobs Van works with panhandlers in Downtown Cincinnati. Volunteers must be 18 years old and have a heart of compassion for the homeless. Sign up online to volunteer or donate to GeneroCity 513.

FALL FEAST – NOVEMBER 26-28

Lend a hand to Cincinnati’s largest Thanksgiving celebration. The mission behind Fall Feast is to change our community for the better through celebration, connection, and the passion to serve others. Fall Feast provides a Thanksgiving meal, haircuts, health check-ups and children’s events for those in need on the holiday. Volunteer for pre-event preparation, kitchen prep, sharing a meal or serving guests.
